Atmospheric Perspective Watercolour Workshop

In this 3 hour workshop Bianca Scrimgeour will walk you through painting a dreamy and poetic atmospheric watercolour painting.

First half of the workshop will feature explanations/clear description of what you’ll be doing and how. Bianca will have a clear step by step picture board of the painting formula at each stage of painting so it is visually very clear how to get from start to finish. Everyone will do the simple hill study with exaggerated tones to experience the atmospheric perspectives effect.

Second half will be the time to make your own painting using atmospheric perspective. There will be examples of Bianca’s artwork as well as photographs that demonstrate obvious atmospheric perspective. From there you can create something from your own bought images perfect if you have any misty Waipa shot on your camera you would like to recreate, or from one of Bianca’s reference photos.

This workshop is perfect for both beginner watercolourists learning how to manage wet in wet painting and experienced watercolourists looking to work with different edges and lighting.

Materials are available for use or you can bring your own if you have experience in watercolour

Reflections on Water Watercolour Workshop

Utilising the wet-on-wet technique this workshop will focus largely on creating reflections on water and can be taken in a realistic direction or a more imaginative one.

Bianca will have a story board illustration of each step of this painting's construction, talking through the formula for preserving dry areas, things to keep in mind for placing colour in the wet. With discussion and visual examples of common features of reflections on water students will be able to use enough "rules about reflections" to clue in recognizable reflections but also really enjoy the wet-on-wet process which can be a challenge to control and lends itself to "going with the flow."

Tilting the paper to allow gravity to help is a fun hands on stage in the painting and watching the paint explode across the wet page is also thrilling.

Water-managment is a big feature in controlling this technique as it is the topic of the class; however it will also be totally achievable for someone new to watercolours to participate in the class.

A range in reference image material will be provided so students can choose subjects to paint that appeals to them and match their skill level.

Materials are available for use or you can bring your own if you have experience in watercolour.
